Review of If Snow Hadn’t Fallen by S. J. Bolton
From the very first of her books I was privileged to read,
S. J. Bolton has been a must-read author, one of those writers whose books I
will read no matter what, no matter when, no matter the subject matter. When
she began her Lacey Flint series with “Now You See Me,” I was enraptured, and
drawn to the character of DC Flint, a young woman in a job that frequently
requires her to confront the ugly downside of London, an individual with
unusual issues and personality quirks. In “If Snow Hadn’t Fallen,” a
tremendously gritty and frightening novella, Lacey finds herself in the wrong
place at the right time, confronting a vicious and brutal hate crime, and by
investigating, draws the five culprits to her own door. Meanwhile she continues
to balance the aftermath of the crimes committed in “Now You See Me,” and the
consequences.
Ms. Bolton is a fantastic writer of suspense and of
character, and I highly recommend this book (although some readers may well
find the violence too graphic).
